Shenita is licensed as a Clinical Professional Counselor Intern in Nevada and offers telehealth sessions throughout the state. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Child and Adolescent Specialization from Capella University, where she graduated with Distinction, and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She brings more than two decades of experience in hospital, rehabilitation, and military healthcare settings to her clinical focus on child and adolescent therapy, trauma, and chronic illness counseling.
Her Approach
Shenita works with children as young as six, preteens, teenagers, and adults, and also sees couples. Her work with younger clients often begins when something has clearly shifted: a child who managed school without much trouble is now waking up with stomachaches, refusing to get dressed, or erupting over homework, and every attempt to talk about it ends with the child shutting down. She builds sessions around what that particular child can actually do, using play therapy, drawing, and conversation so that kids can say what they need to say without being asked to sit still and narrate feelings they haven’t sorted out yet.
Shenita moves at a pace that follows the client rather than the clock. Her years in physical therapy and military trauma care trained her to read what a person is communicating before they find the words for it, and that same attentiveness shapes how she approaches trauma therapy and everyday counseling conversations alike. She asks pointed questions rather than open-ended ones, and she stays with a subject long enough for the person across from her to stop rehearsing answers and start giving real ones.
