Lawrence is licensed as an LCSW in Nevada and Florida. He earned his Master of Social Work from Adelphi University in 1984 and has practiced for forty years. Most of his work as a life transitions therapist is with adults who are stuck in a pattern they’ve already tried to fix on their own.
His Approach
Lawrence works with adults, often men over 35, who have been turning the same problem over for years without it shifting. The husband replaying the same argument he had last week, last year, and ten years before that. The father whose adult child has gone quiet and won’t say why. The person who hit the milestones they were told would feel like enough and is sitting in a quiet house wondering what the next decade is for.
His pace is closer to a long conversation than a clinical interview. Lawrence listens for a while before he says much, and when he does weigh in, he pulls from cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavior therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy depending on what the session needs. Forty years in the room has made him patient with the slow parts and direct about the parts a client already knows need to change. Sessions run by telehealth, so clients can take them from the kitchen table or a parked car between meetings.
Additional Certifications
- National Certification in Social Work — a post-license credential confirming advanced clinical practice standards beyond state licensure.
- National Certification in Trauma Treatment — trained in trauma-informed assessment and treatment for adults carrying older, unresolved events into present-day relationships and work.
